If you want a good deal on a projector, do yourself a favor and get a better quality, but lower resolution one.
On a negative note, I would definitely replace the power cord that this projector comes with. I agree with another reviewer, like theirs, the coating on the plug of my power cord was coming off. I felt the plug was a hazard to plug into the wall so I replaced mine immediately.
Anyway, I would totally recommend this projector to anyone who is wanting a great base level projector, it comes with a bunch of freebies: hdmi cable, aux cable (like for an Xbox), computer cable (to connect your laptop), and a remote. I guarantee you will not find another projector, at this quality, for this price.
It is great, I only wish it had higher resolution but really, it is awesome!
1. No true 16:9 support.
Turning the 16:9 setting on simply stretches the projection so that it will fit a 16:9 screen. It does nothing to the internal resolution of the projector. While plugged into my laptop I had the option of setting the resolution as high as 1920x1080. However, the edges of the screen were cut of. They were in every resolution until I finally gave up and set it to 800x600. There might have been higher resolutions that work. I haven't tried them all yet. From what I've seen though, if you don't use 800x600, you'll have to size whatever you're using to fit the projection window. In my book, that means the thing only supports standard 4:3 def with a 16:9 stretching option, not true 16:9 support.
2. The power cable is an extreme hazard!
The power cable that came with my projector is absolutely worthless. The coating on the prongs of the plug is peeling off! I'm including a couple of pictures, they can be found above. In addition, the slightest bump to the end that's plugged into the projector causes it to shut right off. I'm not trusting it. I suspect that at any point it could start a fire, short out the unit, and/or give someone a serious shock. Thankfully, the projector uses the exact same kind of cord you'd plug into a computer. Since I do computer repairs, I've got plenty lying around, so I plugged in a spare. It worked just fine. I can't stress enough that if you buy one of these, please inspect the plug! If you don't have a spare cable around the house, they're dirt cheap pretty much anywhere. While writing this review, Amazon lists several for only $1.
3. Factory reset
I was fiddling with the settings and accidentally managed to hit the factory reset option. There's no confirmation when you do this. Suddenly, the menus on the screen were all in Chinese! The lack of confirmation is really more of a software oversight. The thing was in English to begin with though, you'd think it'd default back to English. Oh well. The language option is the second option down in the rightmost menu tab if I remember right. I'm sure I'm not the first, and I probably won't be the last.
Other than those problems, I haven't put enough use into it to really stress it out. Considering this is my first projector, I'm pleased. For the price, I was expecting much worse. The built in speaker is loud enough, though I'm considering hooking up an external set. The fan's a little loud, but over a movie or game, you probably won't notice it that much. I can't wait to get this thing outside at night!
