4.0 out of 5 stars Compact Movie Theater, March 1, 2013

Its like being at the movie theater....100" screen. Okay, so its not an HD clear picture, its a little grainy at the large size projection but it still pretty cool. One down side is it will not mirror your ipad2 or iphone with the included 30 pin connector cable. You will need the apple digital av adapter with HDMI out and a Standard HDMI to Micro HDMI cable. They should included that, instead they include a micro to micro hdmi cable...guess thats for those android guys. Its UI is somewhat clunky but if you take the time you will eventually end up with the best settings for your situation. Take note, the room needs to be pretty dark if you plan to project the large 70"-100", not a problem for me as I watch shows and movies at night mostly. It wont replace your TV (we hoped it would) if you have multiple devices to connect. The biggest downfall about the projector is it doesn't have a place to screw in a stand (like a camera stand)...the vga adapter (not included) has an adapter for a stand but who needs a vga adapter these days....poor design. I got a suction cup style car phone cradle for $5 bucks that adjusts and works perfect as a stand. The device does get warm, I try not to watch more than a couple of movies or shows at a time maybe 2 hours continuous use plugged in. All in all, the laser technology is great, no l.e.d.s to burn out. Over all I enjoy watching movies on a "Big Screen" anywhere there is a blank wall. Hope this helps.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I love this little projector, and I've used it a number of times when one wasn't available in a business setting. The resolution is sharp, and the colors pop in low-light. The size of the display itself can change, depending on how far away from the wall it is--I was able to project a movie onto a large wall in my house--though the sound made this a bit pointless, since it was coming from my phone across the room. You could probably hook up the phone to a sound system, which would make it more useful in that regard, but I don't have the ability to do that. Battery life is considerably good, and portability is awesome. I wish it came with a hard case for travel, or something more protective than a velvet bag. Depending on your setup, you may not find all the cables you need--though I was able to work with what I had for testing, I had to go out and buy a different cable to get this to work with my macbook air.

I've only had this for a couple of days but I am really impressed.

I give a lot of presentations, but not always in the same place or with equipment that I have been able to try out in advance. There have been some disasters that have ended up with me crouching in a corner trying to manually advance my slides because for some reason even my clicker didn't work with their setup. And one where I couldn't get anything to display and it turned out they'd never used the equipment before...

So I have been looking for something that I could use as a fallback but that didn't weigh too much or require any major set up.

This is a fantastic little projector. It's tiny, about the size of the Iphone, so you can just carry it around with you. If you have PPT presentations, put them in some accessible format (one of the IPhone/IPad apps for this purpose will do fine, if all you have is your phone) and put them in DropBox or some place where you can access them just in case. Or put them on a flashdrive and bring your laptop.

The projector is literally plug and play. Follow the sequence exactly (don't get carried away and plug in your devices in the wrong sequence) and you'll have no problem. It gives a great image in dark conditions and a good one in other conditions, but it's very adjustable so you won't have any problem.

I bought the VGA adaptor for using with my laptop, and that was also plug and play and gave a very good quality image.

I also enjoyed showing a friend the photos on my IPod, which I projected onto a letter-size piece of paper just to try it out, and it was still more fun than crouching over the phone and the colors and resolution were excllent. You can project on the wall, of course, if you have a big audience...

Completely happy with this device!

And if you just want to sit in your hotel room at night and watch a movie, it's great for that too.

It's a nice projector for what it is, but the room has to be very dark. Does not work well on long distances, and it's not meant for that either.

The projector is small and handy.
But, it did not project the image for a 10-15 people meeting.
If the screen is close by, say 2 feet, then the image is bright.
But at 2 feet, only 2 or 3 people can sit close by and see the image.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware, July 24, 2012

This review is from: Microvision SHOWWX+ HDMI Laser Pico Projector (AA0123600-020) (Office Product)
Let me cut to the chase. If you decide to get this projector after reading this review don't say I did not warn you.

I purchased this projector from Amazon about four months ago. It worked for a little over a month before it failed to project from my ipod touch. Thinking that it was the cable, Microvision sent me a new one. Unfortunately the new cable did not fix the problem.

I then sent the projector back, at my expense and was sent a replacement. This projector lasted about a week before it began to turn off in the middle of the movie, then turn back on either all in one color or very dark. It also had brilliant red/purple lines streaming horizontally on the screen, most visible in the light areas. It also ran very hot.

I contacted Microvision and this time I did get a return label so I did not have to pay for return shipping. I had to wait until they received the defective projector before they sent me a replacement. The third projector began to have the same problems as the second one after I watched a couple movies. And it was running very hot. I was told I could not get a refund since I did not buy it from Microvision directly. I then was told that Microvision does not sell them directly any more. Sounds like Catch 22 to me.

I was told to try some adjustments in color alignment and to get back to them with the results. Nothing worked. I emailed and phoned them a week ago but have yet to hear back from them.

Amazon gives refunds up to 30 days. The manufacturer is supposed to give a one year guarantee. But the guarantee is worthless if the company does not stand by it.

I was informed that these projectors cannot be repaired. They have a one year warranty and if it fails, you are out four hundred dollars.
And based on my experience (unless I am the unluckiest person in the world) there is a good chance that you will be out that much money.

There is only one person who does technical support and that is the same person who answers the phone. She is a nice lady but I am not sure how knowledgeable she is based on some misinformation. She told me that one reason why my projector may have failed is because I did not connect them in the correct order. When I told her that the order I connected the projector to my ipod touch was according to the written instructions. She then said that the instructions were wrong. I also asked about whether they had tested the projectors that were returned by me and she said that they did not because they were a small company and did not have time. When I asked if she could escalate the tech support to a higher level, she told me that she is the only person who does technical support. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she gave me the name of the CEO, Alexander Tokman but could not give me either his phone number or email address.

I subsequently contacted a Mark Burson, marketing manager at Microvision, who used to respond to Microvision reviews on Amazon but unfortunately he told me that he no longer worked for Microvision. When I told him that the tech support person gave me Alexander Tokman's name to contact he said he did not know why she did that. He also told me that he was not sure if Microvision was going to continue to sell the projector to the public. This would make sense given Microvision's recent decision to suspend direct sales.

I originally got this projector for one purpose; to use on my backpacking trips since it is so light and has decent battery life. When it works, it does produce a decent image in focus with a respectable battery life that allows you to watch a complete movie if it is under two hours. But for three projectors to fail within one month does not make me confident about this product. And I strongly suspect that the company is having serious problems.

It is a shame because there is so much I liked about the projector and it could be charged by USB which was important when you are off the grid.

I will update this review should I get a functioning projector but Microvision's failure to respond to my emails and phone messages does not make me very optimistic.

Very entry level projector. Only viewable in very dark rooms and the color was so-so.
Small and fun but not for professional presentations.
And no tripod connection!
I will think twice when a product has a re-stocking fee.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even close to acceptable, June 10, 2012

I've been following this product for a couple of years and finally decided the price and perceived utility were a GO! Even allowing for fact that this is a tiny device and capabilities will be reduced, the product is abysmal. Maybe a couple of years will make it a commercially acceptable, but for now save your money.

The image flickers when used close to the screen. It will send you running for the Advil bottle.

The lumens rating isn't enough to handle even early morning light. Night time is ok, but even after playing with gamma and other settings there was a grey/green muted quality to the image. Reds were crisp, but other colors just got muddy. I'm using a Da-Lite projector screen for these tests so my background is perfectly white.

The product feels fragile; I didn't see fit to drop test it as I am returning it. Looking into the laser source (OFF of course) the reflector componets and whatever else is around the laser looks as cheap as any plastic I've ever seen.

MicroVision claims this product is great for business meetings, movies, etc. With the cheap plastic components, lumens that far deficient for day time use, and light-weight (you can't make it stay put without tape or velcro) the product is wholly disappointing. Again, I've been following for some time, and the original price of $999 was laughable. At $369, it is still overpriced and under performing.

I'm willing to try subsequent models for improvements, but current models do not cut muster.

Overall, this is currently a DO NOT BUY. For $400 you can buy a small monitor and Apple TV if you want a more convenient viewing platform.

  1. HDMI, DisplayPort as well as DVI are electronic expectations used by High-definition video alerts. DVI & DisplayPort (V1) simply have the particular video-image indicate however absolutely no music, when HDMI handles both equally. If you work with a DVI or even DisplayPort (V1) cable television, you will have to hook up music cabling from your DVD-player, PC, video gaming system or even cable/satellite recipient to your TELEVISION SET.
