I bought this Epson 8350 for our media room to be paired with EZ Frame Cine White screen. It's a large projector, somewhat bigger and heavier than I expected, though. But the image resolution is outstanding, I don't see how it could be much better? Very impressed. We love it!

Operation is whisper quiet, only very faint sound of fan, it does blow out hot air exhaust. Operation and technology is super easy. Fast warm up time, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Set up, Nice Picture and Very Quiet, January 14, 2013

I absolutely love this projector. Not only is it easy to set up with the lens shift vertical/horizontal feature but it also has a great picture. When its running in Natural, Cinema, or XV Color modes it is whisper quiet. The Dynamic and Living Room modes are the brightest with a little fan noise, but nothing that will bother you. I can't speak to bulb life at this point, but I didn't purchase the extended warrant on amazon as it was only 112 dollars or 10% of my purchase.

Highly recommended.

It cost $1500 less than the one it replaced but has a much better picture. Refresh rate is a little slow. I installed it '9 feet away and it projects on "110 screen in a blacked out room. Quiet operation. Quick on and off

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't project too far off center, January 9, 2013

I'll come back and edit this review later, and will adjust the rating if necessary, after getting some time with the 8350 and calibrating the color/brightness.

Anyway, I just purchased a pair of these so that my wife and I can play xbox 360 video games at the same time in full size in our home theater; we had been playing split screen on a plasma tv and realized the games were burning images into the tv (doh!). The replacement bulbs for this unit can be found from third parties for relatively cheap prices so playing games with it doesn't present as much of an ongoing financial burden as with my normal theater projector.

My initial thoughts are that, at least out of the box, this thing throws far more than enough light for a light-controlled room. Unfortunately blacks are far from black though; compared to my $7k-range DLP projector in my theater that I use for movies, this unit projects a bright background even if the image is complete black. It doesn't bother me since I purchased them strictly for gaming, but if you were expecting DLP-caliber blacks from this LCD, that's not going to happen.

Regarding the lens shift, another somewhat let down. The lens shift on this unit is mechanical, so you really have no idea where center is unless you turn the knobs from one extreme to the other, counting how many rotations you can make, and then backtrack to middle. It's kind of frustrating if you're trying to set up for optimal projection angle and aren't sure if you've bumped the lens (which does move it). Expanding on this, I'm attempting to use a pair of these to project two side-by-side 69" diagonal images on my theater screen, ideally from the center of the room about eleven feet back from the screen. The projection angle would be about two feet off center horizontally and about a foot off center vertically. Whether I use lens shift or simply point the projector, I have painfully obvious vertical and horizontal keystoning. So, my plan to keep these on a cart I can just wheel into the room for gaming has turned into keeping them on two carts so they can be positioned more on center so I don't end up with a very crooked display. I'm not going to take much away in the ratings due to this though, I realize I'm not using them in a traditional manner and most people would not want to project as far off center as I am, I think.

Other than those above issues, my initial impression is that for 2D gaming, these are great projectors. The black levels really don't matter for this type of use, and most importantly, the 8350 has very low lag from input to projected, so unlike some '3d' projectors that have a lot of slow input processing even when you're not using 3d, this Epson works great and you don't end up getting killed all the time by people you never saw in FPS-style games. My wife and I are using them to play Call of Duty Black Ops. I feel like if I didn't have a $7k+ DLP projector to compare it to, I'd be very happy watching movies on it too, especially in a room that has some light since the black level issue would effectively be invisible. In a light controlled room, that might get mildly annoying over time.

Ok, had I known his was going to be so easy to get set-up, I would've done it years ago! Right out of the box it works awesome. I was concerned about he noise of the fan, but even with my eight foot basement ceiling, I don't notice it at all. Build your own screen and this is an economical solution for a really great picture on a REALLY big screen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great projector originally, January 3, 2013

Originally loved this projector although after a few weeks I started to receive a error messages and I had to wait 2-3 minutes and restart the projector. Every 3-4 weeks the problem reappeared, finally after 10 months I called Epson and they quickly offered a refurbished unit that I accepted. The unit came and was exceptionally loud a 40 minute phone call and another unit was on the way. Again I unmounted, remounted the unit however, when I turned it on I received an error message, again I had to wait and restart the unit. Over the next two weeks every other start resulted in an error and restart. Back to emailing customer service who sent a generic message that they were sorry and I should call to rectify the problem. 3 units, 3 emails, 3 calls, 2 trips to FedEx to return units, 3 units mounted and unmounted and customer service tells me I am not satisfied with the response to call?? First projector from Epson and the last.

Update- after a final email to epson I received a call at home from them apologizing and offering a brand new unit. After a quick conversation my faith in Epson is currently restored and I have upgraded to 3 stars and will further upgrade it after I receive the unit and test it out.

I love it but there was a minor problem when I first got it. The picture was great but occasionally the screen would blank out and it would say there was no signal.
I switched my HDMI cable from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 and it worked great.
Called Epson and after some delay, they understood that I had a bad HDMI 1 port
and as of this moment are sending me a new unit.
I will admit that it is a great unit otherwise.
the vertical and horizontal lens shift is a very nice feature !!
With a HD feed, the picture was perfect !!

Replacing high end mid-nineties 3 gun Sony in home theater. This is a nice unit. Small, quite, light weight. Light power is bright enough to tolerate some ambient light. 1080p picture is great. The main draw back is the limited adjustments to the projected picture in terms of custom sizing, masking, color adjustments etc. I have had for over a year, no issues.

Loving this projector which replaced a 720p Optima unit. The lens shift is so much better than the keystone adjustment. You simply mount the unit level and straight and then use the lens shift to center the image on your screen. The sensor on my old Optima went bad, resulting in dead pixels (it's an unreplacable part). I'm hoping the 8350 won't have such a failure and the bulb will be the only consumable for many years.
